Exercises in recreation: the ancient pankration

As part of our 2003 Day school in celebration of the Olympic Games Dr Alan Peatfield (UCD) presented a recreation of some of the moves of the ancient pankration based on his ongoing research project on ancient combat sports.

Below are a series of photographs of martial artists Patrice Poujol and Stephen Logan, who have been working with Alan Peatfield on reconstructing the techniques of the ancient pankration:
